This grave in the Halabja Cemetery has one of its names covered in verdant green to mark a survivor who was originally thought to have been killed. The man, who was a child at the time of the attack, was rescued by a group of Iranians.

Iranians, whose country was in fighting in the closing days of its war with Saddam, were many of the first responders to the attack, as well as the first journalists to cover it when they crossed over the border near Halabja. The survivor was raised in Iran until his 18th birthday and then returned to his family which was overjoyed to see him.
